New Mural in the Heart of Kerikeri

“A community united by the ideals of compassion and creativity has incredible power. Art of all kinds - music, literature, traditional arts, visual arts - can lift a community.”

You may notice some exciting new artwork coming to life in our little town . Our Kerikeri is delighted to have organised the creation of a large-scale mural on the corner of Masonic Lane and Cobham Road (the Crown Hairdressing wall).

Internationally renowned and now locally cherished, artist Erika Pearce(www.erikapearce.co.nz) is at the helm of this project. You might have admired her dynamic works at the Paihia sea wall, the Mitre 10 indoor playground in Waipapa, or more recently at Plant Zone. Erika's unique piece, inspired by a workshop held at Kerikeri High School, will now grace the side wall of Crown Hairdressing.  This location was chosen for its prime position close to shops, the bus stop, library, and the Domain.

The wall is undergoing this wonderful facelift through the month of February. We hope to minimise any disruption by undertaking the work during off-peak times. Traffic on Cobham Road will not be affected, and safety measures will be in place to ensure vehicles using Masonic Lane are directed around the cordoned-off work area while the artist performs her magic.

The work is weather-dependent; however, we hope to have it completed by the end of February. This way, everyone who comes to Kerikeri, from locals to international tourists during the remaining peak season, can enjoy another initiative beautifying our town and bringing a once-bland public space to life.
