introducing our latest competition
What better way to bring light, colour and creativity to Kerikeri over the darker winter months than creating our very own lantern display. Our team will be adding electric tea lights to your hanging your lanterns and installing them throughout the central shopping area on Kerikeri Road (in place of the hanging baskets) - creating a magical display.
get creative
You will be making a maximum of five lanterns of your own design using materials such as paper, card, fabric, wool, wire and recycled tins. They can be decorated using anything from paint and pastels through to seashells and foliage. Your design will need to incorporate an accessible shelf for a tea light to sit on as well as an open hook at the top. The only material we discourage you from using, for safety reasons is glass (Mason jars etc).
guidelines
Materials: to be provided by you. Do not use glass.
Durability: these lanterns will be displayed outside with minimal protection from weather. Factor this into your choice of materials and design.
Dimensions: the lanterns will be hanging from the same hooks used by the hanging baskets, suspended over the footpath. Keep them well above head height.
Design: if making a lantern from scratch is too challenging you can purchase a lantern and decorate it.
Tea lights: will be provided by Our Kerikeri Community Charitable Trust.

THE YARN BOMBING COMPETITION
Judging is complete and it couldn’t have been more difficult! After many laps of the CBD getting her steps up, the judge selected the following entries:
Best Individual - Hannah Rhodes (outside the chemist)
Best Group - ANZ Bank (outside ANZ)
The use of a simple but striking background allowed Hannah’s blooms to pop while ANZ had a cohesive theme running across all their trees. They both paid attention to the rules and ensured their installations were positioned for pedestrians to enjoy.
Golden Needles Awards were also given to the following entrants for effort and creativity:
Arvida Te Puna Wairoa
Kerikeri Retirement Village
Riverview Primary School
Best Individual - Hannah Rhodes
Best Group - ANZ Bank

A big thank you to everyone who entered. We have received so many positive comments about the installation.
A bit thank you as well to the businesses that provided prizes. We are mindful of the pressure on our business community and we are most grateful for all support that we receive.
