Feature Lighting in the CBD

One of the goals of the community was to revitalise and preserve our vibrant village feel.  A project idea was to create entertainment in social spaces and evening beautification.  A small group of volunteers are working on this with the aim to create feature lighting in town in the evenings.  As part of the streetscape improvement completed 10 or so years ago, some feature lighting was installed around the palms.  Unfortunately, some of these lights were damaged very early on through water seeping into the units and others the bulbs blew and were never replaced.  Our aim is to upgrade some of the uplights with coloured programmable RGB bulbs, which allow the bulbs to change colours, for special days throughout the year.  We are working with Council on this project.

Through collaboration with the Kerikeri & District Business Association, we are also continuing to work on the return of the hanging baskets, but with a twist. These baskets will be planted out with subtropical plants, perfect specimens for our climate and area! They are less maintenance, do not require replanting every few months and should look fabulous!

In order to activate town in the evenings, we need to attract the right type of businesses and create a place that people want to come and linger longer. We need to create events that bring people to town so we are thrilled to see the return of the Street Party and we are looking forward to our Kerikeri Christmas event! If you would like to join a fun group of volunteers, super keen on activating Kerikeri in the evenings, email kerikeriourtown@gmail.com.
