  • You will be creating a colourful, fun knitted or crocheted wrap that fully covers the circumference of the palm trees on Kerikeri Road in the centre of the shopping district.

  • Your creation can include any creative elements such as flowers or animals as long as they are created from yarn.

  • The theme that will be used for judging is ‘we’re bloomin’ ok’. You can interpret this however you like but bright colours and floral designs are encouraged.

  • You will install and remove your own creation. However, if you are unable to do this you can request a volunteer to help.

  • Entry is free and is open to anyone - individuals and groups.

  • You can cover one tree or a number of trees.

  • You will need to leave a 20cm gap between the ground or adjacent foliage.

  • Your creation can be as high as 120cm but if you are installing it yourself, please take this into consideration to ensure your safety.

  • You will need to provide the yarn. If you are short on materials we recommend visiting the local op shops.

the trees that YOU will be decorating

We are decorating the palm trees in the centre of the shopping district on Kerikeri Road. All tree trunks have been numbered, at around head height (with the exception of the police station tree) - you can see the numbers in the pictures below. You will be allocated a tree number(s) once we have received your entry. You are encouraged to find your tree(s) and take measurements of the trunk to ensure your creation fits.
